Survival knives come in different shapes and sizes but if you are looking for the best survival knives look for ones that are made out of stainless steel or D2 steel. Apart from the material, you also have to consider the brand and the country the knife is coming from. Quality is everything so be sure that the knife you buy is something that will actually last for a very long time.
There are many survival knives for sale online. In fact, you can even get military survival knives at real cheap prices. However, how do you choose which one is best? When it comes right down to the nitty gritty, military survival knives should have grooves and holes in their handles and should not conduct electricity. A particular story about an American soldier in Iraq has been cited many times and this story is not something about politics, it is about the knife that saved this soldier’s life.
Army SFC Dillard Johnson and a comrade were pinned down in a building due to Iraqi insurgent gunfire. With only the darkness as their cover, the insurgents inside the building decided to turn on the lights to illuminate the position of the soldiers. Thankfully, Johnson had his survival knife with him, this knife in particular had an insulated handle allowing the soldier to disable the lights by cutting two 220 volt cords without being electrocuted.
Johnson’s story is somehow an inspiration to knife enthusiasts because it gives them more reason to find the best combat knife available in the market today.
Aside from a knife with a good handle, what else should buyers pay attention too when looking for a combat knife? Knives with superior materials are usually the best. If you get one that is cheap and is made out of relatively cheap materials as well, this knife will not last long and may even dull quickly. Quality and function should always be merged when looking for a good combat knife.
For those looking for cheap survival knives, it would be best to browse for knives in different websites to get the best deals. The best advise that knife hunters would give you however is to look for the best knife and not letting the price tag decide for you.
For those who want custom survival knives, there are many shops both online and offline that make custom-made knives. Customers even have the choice of getting their names engraved on their knives through these shops. Knives that are custom made can be passed on from one generation to another. A good combat knife is something you can always rely on. Whether you like knives that have wooden handles or ones that are made out purely of sturdy D2 steel, you should make sure that your knife is rust resistant.
Some knives may look real good like the ones they use in the movies but do not be deceived by these knives and do not buy them. Usually they only look good but are not very effective when it comes right down to it.
What defines survival knives, well I guess that depends on what type of situation you’re in. When I first think of a survival knife I think about the movie Rambo. You have an x member of the military who was a trained green bray, and you put him out in a jungle with some weapons and his survival knives. One of the most impressive parts of that movie for me was when he was injured, and he pulled out his cool survival knife and unscrewed the end cap, and pulled out a sowing kit.
If I was hurt out in the jungle, and had to do stitches on my self not sure how I would take that but Rambo keep his cool and just made having survival knives look really cool. Survival knives can be used just for what there title says survival, so if you need to wider a tree limb to make a sphere to kill something, or cut up some wood to start a fire. I guess if you’re really thinking about survival a knife of this caliber is definitely something you want to have on hand. I think we all have a little survival tactics in us.
Speaking of survival knives I have a buddy that loves to go out and hunt, and he thinks he really cool because he just brings the bear necessity for survival. He has a gun with ammo, his hunting knife, and also what he calls his survival knife. Brian is just really trying to be like the guy on T.V were he gets drop off in the middle of know were, and has to survive. When he comes home he always has some crazy story of all the crazy thins he went threw, not sure if there true or not but they are pretty interesting. One story he told me was when it was pretty close spring time and it look like we were going to be getting a lot of rain that weekend but Brian still wanted to head out, and get to good use out of his survival skills. After being drop off like normal he finds a place to bed down for the night. Once he found a spot he likes he then starts to use his survival knife and cuts up tree limbs and lots of covering to make a sleeping cotters. I guess during this process he keep hearing some weird noises in and around were he was but just keep working. Once he had his sleeping cotters all set he then starts his fire, and heads out looking for something to kill and eat. Like I said he really goes overboard with this whole survival thing. When he was out looking for his dinner he realized what he was hearing was a wolf pack that was not to far away. Now this has been a big problem around the local mountains so he had to rethink his survival tactics knowing that he could be in over his head, and I think for the first time he did the right thing and get to were he could get a phone single because I guess he always had his satellite phone with just in case. So the moral of the story is, you can be cool and have survival knives, and think you’re all prepared but you also have to use some common sense.
